The Calgary Compact website will be a combination of three primary features:
An online magazine publishing original articles written by Calgarians regarding social responsibility and sustainability issues, as well as re-published content from a variety of online sources to provide Calgarians with a thorough, high-quality destination for CSR/Sustainability related content. Download our Editorial Policy here.
An events calendar that goes beyond any other. The Calgary Compact events calendar will house a comprehensive list of local and regional events to paint the full picture of what's happening in the sustainability community.
A library of resources that will enlighten those curious learners about a long list of issues and topics, and present profiles of local businesses and organizations and what they're doing to improve our world.
The Conscious Consumer website will offer those who want to make their purchases a little more socially responsible with these features:
A business directory that describes what a business is doing related to their workplace practices, environmental stewardship and community involvement, as well as other useful titbits of information. Organized and categorized so consumers can find it easily and quickly, and learn about their favourite businesses or discover a new one is what this directory is designed to do. Some of the businesses we already have involved include:
- Ethnicity Catering
- Community Natural Foods
- Eco Yards
- Tradefinder Inc.
- Bullfrog
- Babes in Arms
- Kicking Horse Coffee
- Rocky Mountain Soap Company
- Big Fish
- Café Beano
- Diner Deluxe
- Farm
- Good Earth
- Higher Ground
- Nectar
- Open Range
- Vue Café
- Bonita Runway Ladies Wear
- Janice Beaton's Fine Cheese
- Sunnyside Market
Consumer ratings and reviews will allow users to provide feedback and comment on what they think of a business' socially responsible activities. The collection of these reviews will help the rest of us make better decisions (aka. the word-of-mouth effect).
An inclusive community of users and businesses will promote the good activities businesses are engaged in, while the activities that consumers find less desirable will be constructive opportunities for businesses to improve. Plus, it's free for businesses to be involved, so why not?!
We are anticipating a launch of the Calgary Compact site by Fall 2010 and the Conscious Consumer site thereafter. To contribute to the Calgary Compact site, email editor@calgarycompact.ca. To get listed as a business on the Conscious Consumer site, email consumer@calgarycompact.ca.
