Volunteering with the Calgary Compact is easy!
- Review the available positions and decide which one(s) you are interested in.
- Read the job descriptions for those positions to get a better idea of what the role entails.
- Download the volunteer application form and fill it out, making sure you respond to any screening questions that are stated in the job descriptions for the role(s) you want.
- Send us the application form before the next volunteer intake deadline, and wait to hear back from us for an interview time.

The Calgary Compact Managing Editor provides vision, leadership and oversight of the Editorial Committee in helping shape the conversations Calgarians have about corporate social responsibility and sustainability. The Managing Editor inspires and invigorates a team of passionate editors and writers. We are recruiting two persons for this role, and they will determine how to share the responsibilities.
The Managing Editor is asked to commit to one term of 1 year. A weekly commitment will average 4-8 hours per week.

The Editorial Assistant contributes to the development and critical review of editorial content and helps shape the conversations Calgarians have about corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
The Editorial Assistant is asked to commit to one term of 1 year. A weekly commitment will average 3-6 hours per week.
Writers (many) (download job description)
Calgary Compact writers shape the conversations Calgarians have about sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Writers are the engine that drives the Compact site.
Working with the Editorial Committee, writers develop timely, credible, conversation-starting content for the Calgary Compact website. Topics may be assigned by the Editorial Committee, or writers may propose their own article ideas.
Volunteers are asked to commit to write one story per month, every month, for a minimum term of six months. This includes the time involved in developing story ideas, conducting interviews, drafting, fact-checking, and as many rounds of editing as it takes to get the story publication-ready. The actual amount of time spent on these activities will vary according to individual writing speed and the complexity of the stories undertaken.
Copy Editor (0) (download job description)
The Copy Editor ensures articles that are approved for publishing meet formatting, grammatical and spelling excellence.
The Copy Editor is asked to commit to one term of 6 months. A weekly commitment will average 2-4 hours per week.

The Graphics Editor ensures content on the Compact site is visually appealing through the use of images and photographs.
The Graphics Editor is asked to commit to one term of 6 months. A weekly commitment will average 3-6 hours per week.

The Online Editor updates the Compact website with articles that are approved for publishing.
The Online Editor is asked to commit to one term of 6 months. A weekly commitment will average 2-4 hours per week.
Events Calendar Team member (0) (download job description)
There's a lot of great work taking place in this city, but sometimes it's hard to stay on top of all of the great CSR and sustainability-related events and activity, particularly if you're new to the community.
The events calendar team will help create a single go-to source for all sustainability and CSR-related events in the city. They will conduct outreach to ensure CSR-related organizations are aware of this service. The team will also work with technical volunteers and partner organizations to ensure events are easily and accurately uploaded to the site.
Following the launch of the Compact site, the event calendar team will meet on a monthly basis in a format to be determined by the team.
Volunteers are asked to make a minimum six month commitment, during which they will be asked to commit to between two to four hours a week prior to the launch and two to three hours per week following the launch.
Resource Development Team member (0) (download job description)
Searching the Internet for useful and practical resources related to social responsibility and sustainability can be difficult, especially if you're looking for information that is current and easily understandable.
The Resource Development Team provides practical information and tools that enable Calgarians to learn and develop knowledge regarding corporate social responsibility and sustainability. This is done primarily through an online resource library.
The Resource Development Team member is asked to commit to one term of 1 year. A weekly commitment will average 2-4 hours per week.
Conscious Consumer Committee member (1) (download job description)
The Conscious Consumer Committee members determine and contribute to the strategic planning and leadership of its project. The members work with various volunteer teams to support the implementation of the objectives and goals of the Conscious Consumer project.
The Conscious Consumer Committee member is asked to commit to one term of 1 year. A weekly commitment will average 2-4 hours per week.

The Calgary Compact Board of Directors determine and contribute to the strategic planning and leadership of its program. Board members work with various volunteer teams to support the implementation of program objectives and goals.
The Board member is asked to commit to one term of 2 years. A weekly commitment will average 4-8 hours per week.
Volunteer Coordinator (0) (download job description)
The Volunteer Coordinator manages volunteers to ensure a highly motivated group of individuals are committed to developing the Calgary Compact according to its mission. The Volunteer Coordinator recruits, engages and evaluates volunteers, and is responsible for the intake process, coordinating orientations, networking, training opportunities, evaluating volunteers and the recognition program. We are recruiting two persons for this role, and they will determine how to share the responsibilities.
Each Volunteer Coordinator is asked to commit to one term of 1 year. A weekly commitment will average 2-4 hours per week.
Marketing and Communications Committee member (0) (download job description)
The Calgary Compact has an outstanding opportunity for 5 motivated communicators who want to make their mark in the city's marketing and sustainability scenes. They will help plan and execute a strategy for the launch of the Compact's two new services: the Conscious Consumer Directory and the Compact web portal; they will create and implement a social media strategy; work on website content development and updates; newsletter design, story development, editing and formatting; develop a new Calgary Compact brochure and event booth; conduct media outreach
The Committee will meet in person on a monthly basis and members can expect a minimum of eight hours of individual work per month.
Accountant (1) (download job description)
The Accountant will audit the Calgary Compact's financial records and provide support in preparing the financial statements for the annual report.
The Accountant is asked to commit to one term of approximately 2 years. The commitment will likely occur near the fiscal year end which is March 31st.
